While I took down my first set of sketch notes about the history of the camera obscura, or "dark room", I learned that boxing in and drawing pictures next to writing helps stimulate the memories of the information.
INDIVIDUAL~
I used a cardboard tube to make my personal camera obscura. The image that displayed on my "screen" was of terrible quality. Everything was wrong with this and it could be improved in every which way.
TUTORIAL and Group Project--->
Our group decided to fix the problem of the unbearable quality. We fixed this be adding a fish-eye lens that allowed the already focused light from all directions to be focused onto the screen of the camera obscura.
The first step is to gather your supplies, You will need: paper, lots of tape, a glass fish-eye lens, a plastic bag, and some aluminum foil.
In the second step you need to get your paper and roll it into a tube of about the circumference of your lens. Be sure to tape the roll a lot so it doesn't come unraveled.
The next step is to measure and mark points around the circumference of the tube from one end at about the 5 inch mark and the 10 inch mark.
You will now need to cut the tube around the area that you have marked.
Next, you will need to place the lens in between the two 5 inch sections and tape it vigorously around the lens and both sides of the tube to secure it.
To block out all light, you should place a farely large piece of foil around the areas that you have taped. Next get your plastic bag and cut a small circle a little bigger then the diameter of the tube and place it over the tube and secure it.
You will need to repeat the step above by taping and wrapping foil around the two joined sections with the plastic bag piece facing the length of the tube.
After this has been secured you will need one more piece of foil to put over the end of the tube that you have been working on. After it is generally smoothed out you will need to poke a small hole with a pencil or something sharp.
Look through the hollow end of the tube and enjoy your world upsidedown!
This is the final result of the tutorial. Your camera obscura should look something like this, but hopefully less ghetto. I hope you enjoy making this project! Thanks for reading.
